Vickie Thomas

Hello!  I am Vickie Thomas, the ninth-grade English teacher at Elysian Fields High School.  The 2020-2021 school year is my twenty-third year of teaching, and each year I love teaching a little more.  Ever since I was in the first grade, I knew I would be an educator, and that blessing has provided me with a beautiful life.

Although I was born in Illinois, East Texas has been my home for most of my life.  I grew up in Tatum, Texas, began college in Kilgore, and completed a Bachelor of Science in Education at East Texas Baptist University.  Even though my certifications are in English and sociology, I have taught various subjects and age levels.  While each year brings new challenges, my high school principal, John DeBrock, and first supervising principal, Nancy Fessler, inspire me to teach with patience, understanding, and flexibility.

Outside the classroom, I devote the majority of my time to my family.  My husband of twenty-five years and our two amazing sons, ages twenty-three and nineteen, possess humor and wit along with the most incredible love for people.  Together, Team Thomas strengthens one another while serving God and others.  Holidays and some weekends are spent with extended family, especially with Mama, who has supportively sewn several items for my classroom throughout the years.

In addition to my family, I enjoy exploring many hobbies.  Dancing, traveling, reading, and practicing yoga enrich my life and provide physical and mental rejuvenation.  Presently, I am learning Spanish while working on other bucket list items.  Experiencing something different and meeting new people passionately interest me and feed my quest for adventure.

As a teacher, I seek to encourage and inspire students to reach their fullest potential.  My classroom acts as a learning environment that explores content as well as interest, where students are free to question and research their ideas as well as the world around them.  By strengthening reading and writing skills, students work to understand and discover the power of words.

Thank you for your support and interest in education.  If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me at vickie.thomas@efisd.org or call 903-633-2455 to set up an appointment to meet.
