Transportation

Elysian Fields ISD offers the privilege of bus transportation for all eligible students. Eligibility is determined by application of Board policy.

We believe that our bus service enhances the learning experience of each student. Every effort is made to provide safe, comfortable and pleasant transportation service, while maintaining appropriate levels of efficiency. Effective transportation service requires cooperation among bus drivers and staff, school administrators, students and parents or guardians. We will not allow any person (adult or student) to stop the District from providing a safe, comfortable and pleasant ride.

BUS RIDER RULES AND EXPECTATIONS

It is important for students to understand that appropriate behavior on a school bus is crucial for ensuring a safe and pleasant trip for everyone involved. The bus driver's primary responsibility is to safely navigate through traffic and adverse weather conditions, so students should cooperate and maintain proper conduct at all times. Riding the school bus is a privilege, not a right. If a student fails to adhere to bus safety rules or cooperate with the driver, monitor, or any school personnel, this privilege may be revoked. Additionally, students are expected to comply with the Student Code of Conduct (SCOC) established by the school district while being transported on school-owned vehicles.

Failure to comply with the SCOC or established safety rules while on school transportation may result in consequences such as restrictions or loss of transportation services, as well as disciplinary action.

It is essential for students to understand the gravity of their behavior on the school bus and the potential consequences that may arise from violating safety rules or the Student Code of Conduct. Respecting the bus driver, following instructions, maintaining appropriate conduct, and treating fellow passengers with respect contribute to a safe and enjoyable bus ride for everyone involved.

Expectations

  • Cooperate with the driver and other school personnel at all times.
  • Arrive at the designated stop at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled bus arrival time and be ready to board.
  • Form a single line at least six feet away from where the bus stops as it approaches.
  • Board the bus carefully and courteously.
  • Take your assigned seat and remain seated until the bus has come to a complete stop at your authorized stop.
  • Leave the bus carefully and courteously.
  • For Pre-K to 3rd-grade students, if a parent/guardian is not visibly seen by the driver, they will be taken back to their respective campus.
  • Understand that the driver/monitor has the authority to assign seats.
  • Be courteous to other riders and do not try to save seats for your friends.
  • Report any problems on the bus to the bus driver, Director of Transportation, or school personnel.
  • Secure all loose items, including band instruments, to prevent them from becoming hazards.
  • Board and exit the bus only at authorized stops designated by the Superintendent or designee.
  • No eating or drinking is allowed, except for water in a plastic or non-breakable bottle.
  • Prohibited items include glass objects, live animals and/or insects, aerosol containers, open flames, explosives or fireworks, tobacco products (including e-cigarettes or vapes), objects too large to fit in a student's lap or seat, and any item that may present a risk to the safety of passengers.
  • Cell phones and electronic devices should remain in the possession of the owner to prevent loss or damage. The district is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen devices.
  • Parents should be aware that drivers are unable to monitor the appropriate use of electronic devices while on the school bus.

Behaviors That Will Lead To Revocation Of Bus Priveleges

  • Fighting, physical abuse, or threats of physical abuse
  • Throwing objects within the bus or out of the window
  • Possession of any controlled substance, tobacco products of any type, e-cigarettes, or vapes
  • Possession or use of any object intended to inflict bodily injury, including but not limited to guns, knives, chains, explosives, or fireworks; anything resembling a weapon will be treated as a weapon
  • Extending body parts from the bus
  • Boarding or exiting the bus through the emergency door unless there is a genuine emergency

It's crucial for students to understand the severity of these behaviors and the consequences they may face, including the loss of bus privileges. Upholding appropriate conduct ensures the safety and well-being of all passengers on the bus.
