Hutson, Crain Lead EFHS Class of '24

Hutson, the EFHS 2024 Valedictorian, and Crain, the EFHS 2024 Salutatorian, are joined the top 10 percent of this year's graduates by classmates Mackenzie Simms, Lillie Pierce, Jax Parker, and Madi Reid.

Hutson is the son of Byron and Hannah Hutson. He will attend Stephen F. Austin State University, where he will play baseball and pursue a BBA in Sports Business. David plans to coach at the collegiate level.

He is vice president of the National Honor Society, serves as the senior class president, and is a multiple event qualifier in UIL Academics. David is also an active member of the Student Council, acting as president.

He has earned baseball All-District honors three years running, and he was named 2023 Longview Orthopaedic Student Athlete of the Year.

“My favorite verse is from Ecclesiastes 9:10. It says, ‘Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.’ I refer to this verse as my compass for achieving success,” David said.

Talan Crain is the son of Timothy and Crystal Crain. Upon graduation, Talan will attend Baylor University and major in Biology. He will then enter medical school, where he will work towards achieving his MD and pursue a career as an intensive care physician.

Throughout his time in high school, Talan has participated in track, cross country, and tennis. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, and he has competed in UIL Academics for four years, where he has made two state appearances in UIL Science

“The only way to achieve great things in life is through hard work and tenacity, and this is exactly how I intend to achieve my goal of becoming a physician,” Talan said.

The school will hold baccalaureate on Sunday, May 5 at 6:00 p.m. in the Elysian Fields High School Auditorium. The district will recognize these honor graduates along with their classmates at Elysian Fields High School’s graduation on Friday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m., on the EFHS football field.
